Workers will perform manual agricultural/horticultural tasks. Workers will work with bedding plants and containers. Duties for plants include propagating, working on potting line, transplanting and re-potting into large containers. Care of horticultural products includes weeding, pruning, watering and general plant maintenance. Workers will pull products to fill orders and organize on shipping carts. Workers will perform field and soil maintenance work including rock picking and debris removal; transplant and harvest numerous varieties of vegetables; use hand tools, such as knives, cutting tools, shovels and rakes; will clean, sort and pack product in the field. Workers may be required to selectively pick only product of a certain color and/or size as instructed by the supervisor; handle produce carefully to avoid bruising or damaging product; load and unload bins by hand. Duties for field work also include the operation and transportation of farming equipment to/from farm and field, such as tractors, tractor-drawn machinery and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops. Prepare land for agricultural use, operate irrigation systems, build and maintain agricultural structures. Workers will plant crops, trees and other plants, cut trees and logs, harvest agricultural products, load agricultural products for transport and/or shipment. Workers will be expected to keep equipment and facilities clean. Workers with appropriate skills might be asked to assist with the repair and maintenance of farm vehicles, implements and mechanical equipment, as well as servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning or testing machines, devices and agricultural equipment. Workers must be able to evaluate the quality of plants and crops, identify plants, pests and weeds in order to report to supervisors to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers. Crew leads must be able to direct and monitor activities of agricultural employees during planting and harvesting and confer with managers to make operational decisions. Workers must be able to perform manual activities with accuracy and efficiency. Work is to be done for long periods of time. Workers are expected to perform duties including boxing, weighing and loading of product. Workers will assist in loading trucks with packaged product weighing up to and including 60 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet for long periods of time. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Considerable stooping and kneeling is required. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking, as well as extensive pushing and pulling. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, related chemicals, etc. may affect workers ability to perform the job. Workers are exposed to wet weather early in the morning through the heat of the day, working in fields. Workers are required to work both inside structures and outside in various weather elements. Temperatures may range to 10 to 100F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Workers should be physically able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 60 lbs.

Special Requirements:  This job requires a minimum of 3 months prior experience working on a vegetable farm or greenhouse, handling manual tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities, general plant production and maintenance. Employer assures that workers will be provided transportation from living quarters to work site every day (for workers who must be provided housing under the applicable regulations.)
