About the Company

When the Wight’s Amusements carnival comes to town, it always brings colorful excitement. The Carnival travels year-round to State and County Fairs. They also set up in malls, cities, towns, festivals, and special events throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Wyoming and Texas. John Ring is the present day owners of Wright’s Amusements, which is based in Elbert, Colorado. The Carnival was founded in 1962 by John’s uncle, Floyd Wright, along with his two brothers, Frank and Charles. John Ring , who grew up with the Carnival, said, “We have more than 40 rides that can accommodate 10,000 riders per hour.  We are really proud of what we have built over the years.  Our carnival is one of the only companies in the US that travels year round and each year we are looking for new opportunities for partnerships with malls, non-profits, and festivals to make their events successful.” John said, “The newest ride acquired by the Carnival is, The Spin-Out, which is a high-tech, computer-controlled ride. It is a fantastic piece of machinery which was imported from England”. One of the most popular rides is the Kamikaze. This ride was acquired in 1997 and imported from Italy. Setting up the Carnival in a new location takes a lot of work and requires an organized logistical plan. “It takes two days to erect all the carnival rides, set up all the lighting and prepare for the public,” John said, “In addition to our full time staff of about 75 people, another 20 to 30 local people are hired to help erect and tear down the carnival.” The carnival can either be the “full carnival” with about 40 rides or in some communities they make two different smaller units with about 20 rides each.  This is helpful when you have a smaller audience, or a smaller site. The Operational/Management team includes owner John Ring, Kerry Ardrey, Arnie Morse, and Greg “Opy” Vogt.  Opy said life with the carnival is about “just having fun with each other; we are like a big family.”
