JOBS:  Farm Worker

Perform a variety of harvesting and mechanical-related tasks associated with the production of alfalfa, cotton, barley and other similar grain crops. Manually plant, cultivate, and harvest crops. Transplanting, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops. Clean, pack, load and haul harvested products. Construct trellises, repair fences and assist with construction or maintenance of farm structures. Participate in irrigation activities, such as the setup and operation of irrigation equipment, clear and maintain irrigation ditches, and install water lines to sheds, barns, and other farm structures. Operate tractors, balers, swathes and other farm machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize the soil, or plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops. Repair and maintain farm vehicles and mechanical equipment. Apply pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. Workers may also be assigned additional agricultural duties, such as ditching, mowing, cutting, picking, baling, hoeing, shoveling, ground preparation, mechanized fieldwork, feeding of livestock and other tasks relating to the employer’s farming business. Driver licenses are not required for driving farm vehicles. Work is performed outdoors and can involve exposure to sun, wind, mud, dust, heat, cold and other elements of the normal field environment. The work may entail exposure to plant pollens, insects, snakes, rodents, noxious plants and/or plant materials that have been treated with insect and/or disease control sprays. Workers must walk in variable soil conditions. Workers should come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for the work and working conditions described.
