Job Duties:  ***RFI Response*** Moving snow refers to the process of physically relocating snow from areas where it accumulates to places where it will not obstruct access or create hazards. It entails primarily lessskilled manual labor including shoveling, sweeping, or using snow blowers to move excess snow. The goal of snow moving is to ensure that sidewalks, doorways, working areas, parking lots, and access points are safe and navigable after a snowfall. It is a critical task for maintaining public safety and transportation during winter weather. Cleaning snow refers to removing the remaining snow after the bulk has been moved, often with tools like brooms or small shovels, to make surfaces clean and safe for walking or driving. It may also involve the use of de-icing materials like salt to prevent slippery conditions after snow has been removed. To keep areas warm and snow/frost-free during winter conditions for construction projects, thawing equipment and frost mats are often used. Ground heaters are the equipment used for thawing. These devices generate heat using fuel or electricity and are placed on or near frozen ground or surfaces. The heat penetrates the area, preventing frost and thawing frozen ground. This is crucial for construction projects, such as pouring concrete, as it ensures the ground is at the right temperature. The frost mats used are insulated ground blankets. These are heavy-duty blankets with insulation properties. They are often laid over freshly poured concrete or other vulnerable surfaces to maintain warmth and prevent frost from forming. Salt is spread on sidewalks, doorways, working areas, parking lots, and access points using a salt spreader. The Employer clarifies that the Snow Cleaners will not remove snow via operating a truck with a snowplow attached to the front of the truck or another power operated vehicle. (Emphasis added). Rather the equipment used will be a snow shovel, snow broom, and snow blower ***Original F.a.2*** Perform physical tasks removing snow and ice including pushing, shoveling, moving and cleaning snow and ice from sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots. Spreading salt and ice-melting solutions and solids. Place thawing equipment and frost mats to keep areas warm and snow/frost free. Maintain equipment, clean-up and remove debris.
