Seine ponds to harvest fingerlings and food fish and load on trucks for transport to buyer. Also seine and load fish to stock ponds on our farm. (January-October). Preparing and maintaining spawning ponds for hatching season. Fill spawning ponds with water, sterilizing water before new crop, eliminate aquatic weeds and check water quality (hardness, alkalinity, oxygen levels). Select brood fish: examine fish genitals to determine sex, move to spawning ponds (March-April). Prepare spawning containers: clean, repair and place into brood ponds. Check spawning containers (every 2-3 days)by “feeling” inside container, remove spawn from containers, move to hatchery, place into the hatching troughs(Mid-April – mid-July). After spawning, remove spawning containers and consolidate brood fish to holding ponds. Prepare spawning ponds for next season: drain brood ponds to allow them to dry out by exposure to air for several months. (July-October) Monitor hatchery for water quality etc., clean hatching troughs, feed fry 12 to 18 times daily. Clean and disinfect hatching basket after use. This process requires 2 – 12 hour shifts to monitor and feed around the clock until all fry are moved from hatchery (Mid-April – mid-July). Move fry to nursery ponds. Feed nursery ponds by hand and feeder multiple times per day (July- October). Monitor water temperature, quality and oxygen levels in all ponds (April-October) especially at night. Feed fingerlings, food fish and brood stock fish as needed. (Jan – Oct.) Maintain Bear Creek properties by removing weeds, grass, aquatic weeds, levee tops, drainage ditches, etc. Monitor ponds for disease and harass predatory birds. Workers perform routine maintenance and minor repairs around the farm. This will include fence mending, and levee maintenance by mowing, and weeding eating. Maintain aquaculture equipment and identify equipment needs. Clean, inspect, and repair tanks, pumps, filters, and aerators. Perform routine maintenance and repair on boats, tractors, automotive vehicles, aerators. Operate pumps, oxygenation equipment and paddle wheel aerators. Check oxygen levels in fishponds using oxygen meters. Repair nets, long-lines and cages. After instruction in the safety and operation, workers will operate tractors and other farm equipment during daily operations. Make minor repairs to hatchery equipment, repair and paint buildings and maintain grounds. Perform repairs to drains, levees, and wells and road grading work. Know how to start generators and who to contact in an emergency. If electric power fails there can be a total loss of the hatchery inventory. Stand-by generators run by propane or diesel are necessary insurance against power failure.

Special Requirements:  Must be available for entire contract period. Must be able to perform all job duties. Able to operate tractors and other farm equipment. Must be able to work all shifts. 4e. Lift 50 pounds; spawning containers and feed. 4f. Work is performed outdoors and involves exposure to sun, rain, heat, cold, insects and other natural elements. 4g-4j. Seining requires use of arms, legs and moving whole body walking in water 4-4 1/2 feet deep, lifting, balancing, and stooping. Applicants must provide documents to complete INS Form I-9 if hired. Be available at time and place necessary to begin employment .(Jan. Oct.) 1st Shift: Mon. Fri. 6 am – 5 pm {Sat. Sun. 7 am 1 pm. (primarily feeding)}: Seining ponds, pond preparation, feeding fish, selecting brood fish, collecting spawn, hatchery care requiring 2 12 hour shifts, pond maintenance, monitoring ponds (May – October) 2nd Shift: Mon. Sun. 7 pm – 7 am; checking oxygen levels, water quality, there will be break periods
