Cattle Workers will ensure cattle are feed daily during early spring to early summer months when there is no pasture for cattle to graze until grass begins to grow to ensure cattle maintain good health weight. Worker may operate machinery to broadcast fertilizer or operate seed drill for seeding or reseeding pasture grasses. Workers may move cattle to alternating pastures on farm to give pasture grounds rest for grass to begin to grow in areas where cattle have been kept during winter month. Worker may operate tractors with hay fork to move round bales of hay to pastures and set in feed rings and/or feed out square bales of hay loaded onto truck or wagon and spread out by hand to help reduce hay wastage. Workers will also feed out corn grain to cattle by emptying 50-75 lb. bags of grain in troughs or driving feed truck, equipped with cakefeed in bed of truck to fill troughs. Workers will also ensure cattle have plenty of water either by ensuring ice is broken on frozen ponds, branches or cement ponds or by filling water troughs with water hose while cold weather persists. Workers may also be required to check on pregnant heifers due to calving in the spring. Ensure that heifers who calf during the cold weather are got up in the proper shelter, if needed, before giving birth to reduce the risk of losing both cow and calf. Inspect cow and calf of signs of distress or other health problems and communicate with farmer of change. Ensure cow is feed and watered twice daily and ensure cow is getting proper nutrition to produce milk for calf. If unforeseen circumstances arise and cow is not able to nurse calf or does not produce milk, worker will be required to mix milk and bottle feed calf. Examine cattle to detect illnesses, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain or loss and communicate with farmer of such changes. Provide medical treatments, such as administration of medications and vaccinations, if needed, under the supervision of farmer and/or veterinarian. Alert or communicate with farmer if more extensive treatment is needed. Spray feed trough, feeding areas and stalls with disinfectants or insecticides as indicated by farmer to reduce risk of infections. Workers will also feed out mineral supplements during ensure cattle maintain good body weight and energy. Workers will mark/tag livestock to identify ownership, animals number, if cow is a sire or dam, and month and year of birth. Workers may tag cattle by getting cattle up in working pin and running cattle one at a time thru cattle chute, using proper hygiene to prevent infection at the tag site, and proper tag placement in the ear as indicated by farmer. Workers may also operate tractors with front-end loaders to remove mud and manure when necessary in areas where cattle congregate to reduce the risk of disease and infection. Workers may also be required mend fence when needed to ensure safety and good relationships with other farmers.

Job Requirements

Special Requirements:  The employer will train the workers for a period of two day after which the worker will be expected to work without constant supervision. Tools and Equipment: The employer will furnish, without charge, all tools, supplies, and equipment required in the performance of the specified work. Workers will be charged for any willful damage or loss of such tools and equipment. Drug Testing The employer reserves the right for probable cause to conduct random drug testing on any employee after being hired. If the employee is positive for any drugs or refuses to take a drug test, the employee will be subject to dismissal. This testing will be at the total expense of the employer.
