Planting and harvesting of coffee. The majority of the work will be done outdoors, requiring constant movement and working on one’s feet. Work will consist mostly on growing, maintaining and harvesting coffee crops, among others. Workers must be able to stand and walk up and down hill, to sit, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from waist), push, pull, reach, lift, and carry items weighing in the range of 5 to 60 pounds. Workers are required to hand pick ripe coffee one by one, while carrying a basket around their waist with a minimum rate of 35 pounds per hour. Workers may also be required to perform tasks related to planting and harvesting of other crops, such as plantains, lime, beans and yams. The regular work week will consist of 37.5 hours, 7.5 hours per day from Monday to Friday, with shifts from 7:00am to 3:30pm. Employees may be required to work on Saturdays. Employees may be requested, but not required, to work twelve hours per day and/or to work Sundays or Federal Holidays depending on the conditions of the fields, weather, and crop maturity. The farm manager or supervisor will advise employees at the end of the workday if there is any change in their daily shifts for the following day. Regular attendance of all employees during scheduled hours of the workday and/or work period is expected. Unsatisfactory attendance, including tardiness, reiterated absences and requests to leave before the end of the workday, quitting early, will be cause for disciplinary action. Employees are required to notify the farm manager or supervisor as far in advance as possible prior to the start of the workday if they do not expect to be on time or will be absent.
