Farmworker

Workers will walk open fields, cutting romaine or ice burg lettuce and bell peppers, from the ground utilizing cutting knifes, and shears. Workers will build boxes for the harvest, handle and move cartons, sort, bag, tap and pack in corresponding boxes. Workers may occasionally hand weed with long handled hoes. A lettuce and pepper cutter employee walks on the furrows at the side of a harvester machine, he will bend forward his body (90%) over the furrows in the field to cut lettuce head or peppers (90%). The employee also works (10%) of his time trimming the lettuce, removing excess or damaged leaves if its necessary depending on the product quality. He will place lettuce or peppers on a tray after he is completely sure that the product is clean and ready to be packed. A carton maker employee will (90%) of the time be building boxes on top of a harvester by unfolding the carton and inserting the tabs into a perforation area to complete the box and pass it to the packers over a rail. (10%) of the time, he will be lifting a bundle of cartons of 12 pounds to build the box. The lettuce packers will be sorting and bagging lettuce (90%) and tapping lettuce ((10%) and pack on the corresponding box according to the quality. The shallot harvesters will be walking behind shallot machine carrying an empty white bucket, the employee will be bending over to the ground picking up the shallots that were not picked up by machine (90%) and put them in the bucket, then when the bucket is full, or they reach the opposite side of the field, they dump the bucket into the machine. This person must be able to walk the full shift. Cherry pickers will wrap tubs with a strap around neck, go up a ladder and select cherries and filling up the tub, once tub is full, employee climbs down from ladder, picks up a new tub and repeats the process. (100%) Some will operate tractors/machinery. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Employer will train for two working days in the job duties. The housing is a combination of owned and leased property and the employer has documentation that the housing meets all local, State and Federal standards. In the absence of applicable local or State standards, DOL OSHA standards at 29 CFR 910.142 will apply. Job Classification: Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop
