About the Company

 Part of North Myrtle Beach History

1948       Frank and Louise Boulineau opened a grocery store in the small community of Cherry Grove Beach, which at the time had fewer than 100 houses.

1954       Hurricane Hazel wiped out the store, along with most of Cherry Grove. A few years later a second store was opened in Cherry Grove.

1969       Frank Boulineau III and his wife Elizabeth converted a portion of an 8,400 sq. ft. discount store into a grocery store named Coastal Mart.

1972       The Dairy Hut opened bringing delicious homemade ice cream, frozen treats, and snack items to Cherry Grove Beach.

1973       An additional 2,400 square feet was added to the store.

1975       A restaurant and laundromat were built adjacent to the grocery.

1977       A unique nautical gift shop “The Barnacle” was added to Coastal Mart making it the original beach shop in Cherry Grove Beach.

1982       The store was expanded to meet the ever-growing needs of the growing Cherry Grove community.

1986       A major expansion was undertaken to double the size of the store to 50,000 sq. ft. and the Boulineau’s name was placed on the main store.

1994-95  Shell Gas Station, Food Mart and Car Wash and a True Value Hardware Store opened continuing the Boulineau’s tradition of excellence.

1998       An additional 30,000 square feet was added to the main store.

2014       The main store’s second floor was expanded by 5,000 square feet and a jewelry department was added.

2018       Boulineau’s Express opened providing a variety of fuel options, convenience items, and delicious hot food items to Cherry Grove Beach.

Today    Boulineau’s features 85,000 sq. ft. of shopping on two floors and is one of the country’s most unique grocery stores and the largest grocery store in North Myrtle Beach.
